KERN HO 5K
The HO 5K is a professional ultrasonic hardness tester designed for mobile use where speed, precision, and reliability are critical. Using the UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) method, it delivers accurate hardness results directly on-site without the need for large samples or complex optical analysis.
The measurement principle is based on a vibrating rod with a Vickers indenter at its tip. When pressed against the sample at a defined test force, the resonance frequency of the rod changes as the indenter makes a microscopic impression. This frequency shift is converted into a hardness value, providing consistent results while leaving almost no visible mark on the test surface.
This device is ideal for applications such as inspecting forgings, welds, castings, bearings, gear flanks, and heat-treated components. Compared to Rockwell and Brinell methods, it requires only a very small indentation, making the test nearly non-destructive. Unlike Vickers testing, there is no need for time-consuming optical evaluation. And compared to Leeb testing, the device works even on smaller or lighter samples, making it highly versatile.
The HO 5K complies with DIN 50159-1, ASTM-A1038-2005, and JB/T9377-2013 standards. It includes advanced features such as storage for 1000 groups of readings, mini statistics for quick analysis, and calibration with up to 20 reference values for flexible use across different materials.
